Employment Equity

Employment equity has been embraced at all levels of the company. Our total staff complement of 550 comprises 97% black staff and 63% female representatives.

Preferential Procurement

African Corporate Cleaning has examined its existing supplier list and has reviewed its procurement procedures and formalised its procurement processes to allow more black-owned companies access to its procurement budget.

These initiatives and the finalisation of a formal procurement policy underline the company's commitment to increasing its expenditure from enterprises that have made a significant progress in the area of BEE. Currently BEE suppliers benefit from over 63% of our procurement.

Corporate Social Investment

Management fully recognises the need to create a tangible improvement in the quality of life of disadvantaged South Africans. Johannes Selepe is a recipient of the company's CSI programme and has received skydiving training and coaching to the value of R5,320.

Johannes (Joe) started his involvement with skydiving in 2003 as a maintenance worker and ground crew member at a skydiving club in Modimolle, Limpopo. Joe became determined to become a skydiver instructor. The high cost of the sport and the required 500 jumps to participate in the instructor's course were major hindrances to Joe's dreams.

African Corporate Cleaning decided to assist Joe to achieve his coach rating, jump master rating and finally instructor rating.

Environment

The company controls the extent of its paper, energy and water consumption. It recycles all of its used cleaning containers, paper and toner cartridges and engages in effective waste management. As a cleaning company, the focus on recycling offers clients the solution to their general and specialised disposal requirements. These services fall part of a longer-term company objective.

Enterprise Development

Enterprise development is a key component of the company's BEE and transformation framework and comprises the establishment of Afri-Glaze (Pty) Ltd. Afri-Glaze was established in 2007 in conjunction with Sindile Mnizi, a former sales person at African Corporate Cleaning. Originally employed to handle the sales for one of the company's value-added services, Sindile was identified for career development due to her enthusiasm, hard work and initiative.

Sindile is the majority shareholder in Afri-Glaze, which focuses on paint protection and valet services for new and pre-owned vehicles at large corporate dealerships. Afri-Glaze now also contracts her services to African Corporate Cleaning.

The business was set up under the mentorship of African Corporate Cleaning's management, who also allowed Sindile access to the company's group of clients.

Training and Skills Development

Skills development amongst staff is another key driver of performance. The focus on training is two-pronged: in-house training ensures that staff are up to date with the client's unique cleaning requirements, while professional training ensures that employees continue to serve customers with excellence and build African Corporate Cleaning's reputation in the market place.

In-house training is completed over two programs:

    * The first is full theoretical training and takes place prior to commencement at the client's premises.
    * The second is on-site, client specific training, ensuring that each cleaner not only performs to company standards, but to the client's standards as well.

Professional training is ongoing:

    * Professional or specialist training is ongoing as the need is identified. It enhances competitive edge and contributes to the betterment of the company's processes.

Siyaya Skills Institute was appointed in September 2006 as the company's skills facilitator, and manages all training activities in terms of the Skills Development Act.

Additional to the company's skills plan, African Corporate Cleaning provides on-going bursaries, in-service training and learnership training programmes as part of an employment creation initiative. Part of the company's ongoing focus is to identify suitable beneficiaries for Services SETA learnerships, with the following goals already achieved:

    * Enrolment of 26 employees for Services SETA Level 3 (Management) learnerships.
    * Driver Training & Assessments for all company drivers and supervisory staff
    * 20 Staff completed 6-Day Management training module.
